Daily Queens: one queen per row, column and colour

A colourful logic puzzle with simple rules and a single solution. Three board sizes every day.

In short

Play a new Queens puzzle every day in three sizes (7×7, 8×8 and 9×9). Place exactly one queen in each row, each column and each coloured region, without any two queens touching — not even diagonally. Every puzzle has exactly one solution.

How to play Daily Queens

  1. The board is split into coloured regions — as many regions as there are rows.
  2. Place exactly one queen (♛) in every row, every column and every coloured region.
  3. Two queens may never touch, not even diagonally.
  4. Tap a cell once to mark it with ×, twice to place a queen, and a third time to clear it. Drag across cells to mark many × at once.
  5. Queens that break a rule are shown in red stripes.
  6. Choose easy (7×7), medium (8×8) or hard (9×9). Each size has its own daily puzzle and statistics.

Tips and strategy

  • Start with the smallest region: if a region covers only one row or column, its queen must be there.
  • When a queen is placed, mark its row, column, region and all eight neighbouring cells with ×.
  • If two regions fit entirely inside the same two rows, those rows are used up — cross out every other region's cells in them.
  • Look for cells that would block a whole region if a queen were placed there; such cells can be crossed out.
  • Work with × marks: in Queens, ruling cells out is usually faster than finding queens directly.

Frequently asked questions

Does every Queens puzzle have exactly one solution?

Yes. Each daily board is checked by a solver when it is generated and is only used if exactly one placement of queens satisfies all the rules.

Can queens touch diagonally?

No. Two queens may not be in any of the eight cells around each other, so diagonal contact is not allowed either.

Why are some cells striped red?

Red stripes mark queens that share a row, column or region with another queen, or that touch another queen.

What does the hint button do?

It removes a queen that is in the wrong place or, if none is wrong, places one correct queen. Hints are counted in your shared result.

Is this the same as Star Battle?

It is closely related. Star Battle uses the same region idea, often with two stars per row; this game uses one queen per row, column and region.

Is the puzzle the same for everyone?

Yes. Each size has one board per day, identical for every player in every language.
